ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Where Academic Rigor
Meets Field Reality

FIU established the Tropical Conservation Institute to bridge the gap between classroom theory and on-the-ground conservation practice.

As TCI's primary partner, RSCF contributes decades of experience solving urgent conservation problems, along with an international network of collaborating organizations in biodiversity hotspots across Latin America, Africa, and the Pacific. RSCF designs and implements sustainable recovery programs for endangered flagship species, coordinates with governments and research institutions to protect critical habitats, and provides consulting and technical expertise that TCI students are trained to deliver.

Together, FIU and RSCF offer graduates and working conservation practitioners the practical tools, field exposure, and professional connections to develop and implement strategies for critically endangered ecosystems in the tropics and sub-tropics.

WHERE WE WORK

Three  Bio-Geographical  Focus Areas

TCI concentrates its training and research programs in tropical and subtropical ecosystems across three priority regions.

Parrots and Primates at RSCF

REGION  01

South America & the Caribbean

Including South Florida, home to RSCF's captive breeding facility and key South American species recovery programs including the Red-browed Amazon parrot.

Mountain Bongo at RSCF

REGION  02

East Africa

Anchored by RSCF's Mountain Bongo Recovery Program, with active partnerships supporting wildlife repatriation and habitat protection in Kenya.

Lemur

REGION  03

Tropical Pacific
